How to Avoid Stretch Marks

What causes stretch marks?

There are numerous reasons why scars or stretchmarks may appear. Sudden gain in weight or increase in muscle mass are some of the primary causes. While there are no related health risks associated with scarring, they are quite unappealing and unpopular. Stretch marks occur due to stretching of the dermis (skin). This dermis layer of the skin is the elastic middle layer. When the area of the body is stretched, like the arms or shoulders, the connective tissue is broken. The result is inflammation which heals in the formation of a scar.

Weightlifting is one of the most popular method to build muscle mass. Since weights are liberally used in most strength training regimes, the increase in the muscles is rapid and the skin is not able to regenerate in time. The resultant effect is tearing and undue stretching of the skin. The scars that are left behind are visible in the shapes of stretch marks, usually on the shoulders or arms.

Intensive Stretch Mark Treatment

The Dr. Max Powers Stretch Mark Intensive Treatment was designed to specially target those who are regularly involved in lifting heavy weight and prone to shoulder and upper / lower arm stretch marks. The cream works in two ways to deal with these stretch marks. The first is to reduce the present stretch marks by adding moisture to the skin to allow the skin to regenerate newer skin cells that will eventually replce the damaged (stretched) tissue. The second is to prevent any future stretch marks on the skin due to further lifting by adding elasticity in the skin layer to avoid this overstretching in the first place. Prevention of stretch marks is CRITICAL in their management.

Prevention of Stretch Marks is Recommended

The Stretch Mark Intensive Treatment is formulated in a special way to deal with this loss of skin elasticity. It gives the body many essential vitamins and nutrients which the skin needs to regenerate. The effect of these supplemental nutrients is to encourage skin elasticity and collagen. As the skin layer is reinforced with collagen and elasticity, the stretch marks are visibly reduced in appearance. The major effect of this enhancement of elasticity is the prevention of any future scarring. Since the skin is elastic, it is better equipped to deal with the future increase in muscles mass and will neither get torn nor scarred.

Weightlifting is the perfect way to build core muscle strength and mass. The benefits of heavy weightlifting are diverse and numerous. The only associated drawback is the stretch marks which can impart an unpleasant look to the skin. This Stretch Mark cream will rejuvenate the skin with the necessary nutrients and prevent and future stretch marks from scarring the skin in the upper arm and shoulder areas.

Hi Crystal, I have older stretch marks as well on my upper thigh area, and I noticed the stretch mark treatment did help make them blend in with my skin… it just takes time, but its way worth it because the cream helps them blend, which then makes them not noticeable… -Tania

I think prevention is the key. I used to get shoulder stretch marks, because to be thinner, and from working out and taking supplements, my arms and shoulder grew quickly. Luckily I had someone recommend me to ensure that I keep my arms and shoulders moisturized during my work out and in general.

I found this cream and have been using it for about 6 months. Noticable difference in the the stretch marks – but again, I have been using it as a preventative.

Is aloe vera really the best for existing stretch marks? I’ve done my research and alot of sources say its the best bet…hmmm.

Yes, SueVue aloe Vera is best for the existing stretch marks. I have used this Dr.max stretch mark cream few months back, and noticed the improvements.

I agree that prevention is key. I would say its more important to protect yourself of future marks before attempting to remove old scars. I personally have not tried to use this product to remove old scars but thus far it works great at preventing future scars. I am curious about future effects to the skin. great article!

Ive noticed that stretch marks occur when there is drastic changes to your body mass. Unfortunately, people that abuse steroids or starve themselves experience drastic changes that the body cant fully adapt to. These scars are the most complicated to remove but its still possible through treatment. The key is consistency really. I like the article.

The very best advice is to take action in preventing scars before trying to heal the existing ones.

This is an intensive treatment so if your pregnant you would probaly be okay with cocoa butter. This is more for body builders I think.

I just gave birth to my second child, and I wanted to thank you all for the great advice. I used the Dr Max Stretch Mark Cream as preventative, i.e. I started applying it as my belly grew, that way the skin did not stretch. I would use it every other day for the last 5 months of my pregnancy.

I barely have any stretch marks this time around. I didnt use cocoa butter as Jay mentioned, because as a pregnant woman, I didnt want to put anything with chemicals on my skin – and this stretch mark cream was chemical free and organic.

This stuff is great for your shoulders and biceps mostly. I always see those being the first areas to show scars and they are the most difficult to remove.

To prevent stretch marks is the most important thing. I think fighting against it once it happens is extremely difficult. However, a product like this will only help the situation.

Can stretch marks go away yes. Possibly the most effective approach to eliminate stretch marks is by using a cream. But you need to make sure you pick a good cream. And it is possible to do this by choosing one that’s FDA registered. This means it has passed the U.S food and drug administration regulations. You are going to want 1 that has been extensively tested. Also picking a natural stretch mark cream would also be an added bonus.

As I’m doing heavy workouts, I have stretch marks on my upper thighs. On reading the reviews, I like to try out this Dr.Max stretch mark cream.

I am now on my trimester and the stretch marks are starting to show. I tried my best to apply cream but it did not prevent those ugly and dark stretch marks from appearing on my legs and stomach. Just like Samantha, my concern is if this cream would be safe for pregnant women like me? I did research online and found out someone was using it while pregnant. Based on her comment, it was effective and the stretch marks were gone even before giving birth. I will definitely use this product but of course I will have my OB check it for me to make sure that my baby is safe.

I’m a 14 year old teen and I already have white stretch marks on my thighs. Now, I am not confident wearing anything higher than my knees. I pleaded to my mom to buy me a stretch mark remover and she asked me to check the website first for recommendations. I stumbled upon this blog post and I think I want to try this product. I hope and pray that it is effective.

I’m in the same situation with Paula. I got these stretch marks on my thighs, just below my butt and I don’t know how I got it! Last summer, I’m not being able to wear those bikinis and even short \shorts\ because I’m not confident on my body. I’ll probably try this Dr. Max stretch mark intensive treatment. And wow, it’s organic too!

hey, i have gained about 20 pounds in the last year from the depo-shot as they call it, and i am generally skinny have been all my life. i have bright purple strecth marks on the back of my knees for about 5 months now and i have tried every cream you can imagine. mederma sorta helped but after you stop using it for about a week they start to reappear. if they are still bright purple, does that mean they are still new scars? and will this Dr. Max Powers stretch mark cream help? i have heard several good things about it. i just need some advice. thanks.

    Hi J,

The Dr Max Stretch Mark Cream – is recommended to PREVENT scars and stretch marks – this is the best way to avoid them.

That being said, I also has some existing stretch marks before I started using the product – and it DOES help diminish them. Its obviously not as good as preventing them, but if you have some existing scars or marks, it does help….
